Mercedes Water Pump

Mercedes water pump--The heart of the car's cooling system

Considered as the heart of the cooling system, the Mercedes water pump is the one responsible for circulating the coolant throughout the engine.

The Mercedes water pump is one of the vital parts of your Mercedes Benz’s cooling system. It is specifically designed to disperse heat from the engine and allowing a manageable temperature level to surface for proper engine operations. The engine can create a massive amount of heat during its combustion process. This heat can cause serious damage to the engine and its vulnerable parts. That is why an efficient cooling part such as the Mercedes Benz water pump is employed to help in dissipating one-third of the engine’s generated heat.

The Mercedes water pumps are engineered as a centrifugal pump driven by a belt that is connected to the engine’s crankshaft. It allows it to flow from the radiator and through the engine and cycles back to the radiator again. It is composed of a shaft with a pulley on one end and a pump rotor to the other end. As the pulley is driven by the belt, the rotor will start to circulate the coolant. By using the centrifugal force, coolant is channeled to the outside while it spins. This causes the coolant to be drawn from the center continuously.

The Mercedes Benz water pump has an inlet located near the center which allows the coolant returning from the radiator to hit the pump vanes. These pump vanes throw the coolant to the outside of the pump where it can enter the engine. The coolant leaving the pump passes first through the engine block and into the cylinder head, and then flows into the radiator and finally back to the pump. This is how the normal operation of the water pump happens.

There are different Mercedes water pump designs for different model applications. Because it plays a crucial role in proper cooling process, its top working condition must always be ensured. Regular maintenances and inspection can preserve its consistency and efficiency as well as benefiting from its long-term serviceability.
