The Mercedes pressure plate is an important element of your car’s clutch system. It firmly squeezes the clutch plate among the flywheel and the pressure plate by means of applying a clamp load. It has several components which include the release fingers, cover, clutch plate and springs. As the name suggests, it places pressure to the clutch disc so that torque can be shifted to the transmission. It work hand in hand with the flywheel and clutch disc to ensure the correct power flow generated by the engine to the transmission.

There are two types of Mercedes pressure plates – the diaphragm type and the spring type. The diaphragm type is said to be the best plate to use for commercial cars. It employs a large, single Bellville-style spring to apply load. One of its advantages is that it uniformly puts pressure to the whole plate assembly. Its second advantage is that it makes holding the clutch pedal more convenient during long period of non-movement.

There are various reasons that can cause damage to the pressure plate. Elements such as broken release levers, engine oil leak that reaches the clutch assembly, busted flywheel surface, sprung clutch disc hub, and misalignment of the transmission and the engine can lead the plate to wear easily. It is always best to conduct regular checkups of your car parts to ensure its proper handling and drivability.

A damaged Mercedes pressure plate can lead to clutch chatter, clutch slippage and clutch drag. Clutch dragging causes the clutch to not release or the just partially loosen. Clutch slippage can also be caused by inaccurate clutch components and misadjusted linkage. A good car performance does not only rely on a powerful engine but it is also brought about by the proper car care and maintenance to assure that all parts are working properly.

Mercedes Tie Rods

The Mercedes tie rod plays an important role in your vehicle’s steering and suspension system. It is used as an efficient steering linkage, steering knuckle pivot supports, and used in other hinge mechanisms. It connects the steering rack to the front wheel hub. This works by transmitting the force from the steering center link or the rack gear to the steering knuckle which causes the wheels to turn. It uses a threaded adjusting sleeve which allows the length of the tie rod to be adjustable. This adjustment is used in setting a critical alignment angle when positioning the vehicle’s toe.
