Mercedes Oxygen Sensor

Mercedes Oxygen Sensor--The Sniffing Dog for Purer Exhaust Emission

The Mercedes Oxygen Sensor tells the right amount of exygen to be mixed with fuel during the comsbution process.

Mercedes oxygen sensor is the device that monitors the concentration of oxygen present in the exhaust gas of your Mercedes vehicle. The Mercedes oxygen sensor is a probe that is embedded on the exhaust pipe of the engine. It is connected to the onboard computer of the vehicle. The computer interprets the data sent by the oxygen sensor. Based on these data, the onboard computer makes appropriate adjustments such as lowering or increasing fuel injection. In so doing, the ideal ratio of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is maintained.

Monitoring the fuel and air ratio is important in maintaining the optimal function of the engine. Depending on the type of fuel, there is an ideal fuel and air ratio that should be maintained. The ideal ratio for gasoline, for instance, is 14.7:1. This means that for every one part of gasoline, fourteen parts of air is needed to have a complete combustion. Mercedes oxygen sensors monitor this ratio through chemical reactions. The chemical reactions are converted to electrical voltage that the computer can interpret.

The incomplete combustion of fuel results in the production of pollutants. If there is less air than the perfect ratio, there would be fuel left unburned. This is called rich mixture. Rich mixture is detrimental because it results in the production of hydrocarbon pollutants. On the other hand, if there is more air than the perfect ratio, this results in the production of nitrogen oxides. Nitrogen oxides are dangerous because they can be converted into acid.

Both rich and lean mixtures are not good for the performance of the engine. Hence, it is vital that the air and fuel ratio inside the combustion chambers should be maintained at the ideal level. Although the oxygen sensor simply monitors the air and fuel ratio, the data it sends to the onboard computer is vital in maintaining proper air and fuel balance. Our website offers high-quality oxygen sensors for any types of vehicle.
